It was narrated on the authority of Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, that when it was said to the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, that the possessions have collapsed and the roads are cut off; Please invoke Allaah (to protect us)". So the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, said:

«Allaahumma hawaalaynaa wa laa ‘alaynaa. Allaahumma ‘alal-’aakaami wath-thiraabi, wa butoonil-’awdiyati, wa manaabitish-shajari (O Allaah, let it pass us and not fall upon us, but upon the hills and mountains, and the centre of the valleys, and upon the forested lands.» (Reported by Al-Bukhaari:957, and Muslim:897).

Amongst the beneficial notes of this Hadeeth are the following:

1- It is prescribed to say above invocation when the rain increases and one fears to be harmed by it.

2- It is prescribed to do Istisqaa’ (i.e. supplication and prayer for rain) when it is necessary.

3- Rain may be more beneficial to a place than to another, in a time than in another, in a situation than in another.
